Suit Up and Sweep Them Off Their Feet: Romantic Getaways with Tailored Style

As we approach Valentine’s Day, one question seems to be rearing its head more and more often: ‘how can I avoid the cliches and do something with substance?’ To answer this, the Oscar Hunt team has put their heads together to tailor a list of mini-break destinations that you can surprise your better half with.

From East to West, our experts have shared their pick of accommodation that is suitable not only for romance but also for showing off a new tailored suit.

Let’s dive in!

Perth:

Nothing says ‘love’ quite like wine country and Margaret River - just South of Perth - has some of the best vines in the world. Known for its Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, the area is awash with chic spots for two to spend a secluded weekend away. Our pick of the lot is Cape Lodge - a 22-room country house retreat snuggled between the ocean and some of the area’s best vineyards. In terms of the perfect tailored pairing, we recommend a striped cotton button down shirt paired with chinos and loafers. The perfect mix of comfort and elegance.

Melbourne:

When you want to get away from it all - but still have the amenities of an urban centre - the Mornington Peninsula is where any discerning Melbournian turns. Full of beaches, fine dining, hiking and wineries, the area is a holiday mecca for good reason.

For something a little more on the special side, we’d steer you in the direction of Jackalope. Blending artistic sensibilities with a hatted restaurant and fine wine, it’s the perfect place to lose yourselves for the weekend. For those dining, Doot Doot Doot is a fancier affair and we recommend dressing accordingly. Layering a navy blazer over a white shirt and chinos will work perfectly without feeling too stuffy.

Sydney:

While the lure of staying in the Harbour City can be strong, consensus from our team was that getting away from the rat race makes for a slightly more special weekend. Our destination du jour is Bannisters at Mollymook. With views gazing out over the Pacific to the Rick Stein restaurant, we wouldn’t blame you for never leaving the property. Wardrobe wise, think coastal: seersucker suiting for dinner and light cotton chinos and shirts for day.

Adelaide:

We’re fans of the unexpected and that’s why rather than turning to wine country - the go-to for anyone visiting the Adelaide area - we’re steering you further South to the magnificent Kangaroo Island. Having largely recovered from devastating fires, the island is now well and truly open to visitors. For those wanting to treat themselves, we couldn’t look past the iconic Southern Ocean Lodge. Perched on the coastline, it’s not only an architectural marvel but also the epitome of luxury. This being the case, it only makes sense that you pack the kit to match. Our preference would be a collection of chinos along with cotton shirts to keep you cool and some of our lighter knits for those chillier evenings.

Brisbane:

Sometimes a staycation is all you need and with Brisbane boasting a slew of excellent new hotels and dining options, it’s just the city to do it. Now, it’d be remiss of us to recommend anywhere other than the recently crowned ‘Best Hotel in Oceania’; The Calile. Impossibly chic and the epitome of a relaxed - yet elevated - Queensland lifestyle, the property is centrally located on James Street and within throwing distance of excellent bars and restaurants including our favourite - The Lodge. For the outfit to match, we’d opt for tailoring in neutrals and warm tones that match the colour scheme of the property itself.
