How Many Fittings Does a Made-to-Measure Suit Take?
One of the most common questions we get asked regarding made to measure suits in Australia is ‘how long does it take?’ And this is because unlike a regular retail experience where you walk away with the garment there and then, custom suiting is a process.
But what does that mean in practice? And what should you expect if this is your first time having a made to measure garment made? Here, we answer all the questions that you might have about the Oscar Hunt process so you can get the most out of the experience. Let’s get into it!

Made-to-measure tailoring steps
Starting with the basics, there are generally four key parts to having a suit made: an initial consultation, construction, the first fitting and the second fitting. In general, this takes around 6 weeks from start to finish and ensures that you walk away with a garment that doesn’t just fit but looks sensational on you .

How many fittings for a made-to-measure suit?
We’ve already provided a bit of a clue on this front, but most clients will require two fittings for their garment (although sometimes it might take one extra appointment for fine tuning). The purpose of the first fitting is for you to try on the garment for the first time and identify any small tweaks that may need to be made. The second fitting is then used to conduct a final check and to ensure that you’re completely happy with the finished result.

What to expect during the made-to-measure suit experience?
From your initial consultation right through to when you leave the showroom with your finished garment, you will have a dedicated Oscar Hunt expert guiding you through the process. They’ll be able to help with everything from identifying the right style for you, to selecting fabrics, to making any adjustments to the garment itself.
In addition to fastidious attention to detail, you can also expect the best in contemporary Australian hospitality. All of our showrooms are fitted with a complimentary bar service and our fitting spaces are designed more like a lounge, making sure that you feel at home throughout the custom tailored suit fitting process.

Bespoke suit vs made to measure?
While less common, some clients will ask us about the comparison between bespoke and made-to-measure suiting. The key difference is that in bespoke suiting a tailoring ‘block’ or pattern will be crafted specifically for you whereas in made-to-measure, an existing block will be altered to your specification. While this is a small difference on paper, it does result in significant variations in pricing with bespoke suits generally costing upwards of $6,000 and taking closer to 3 months to construct.
